[From Miller Outdoor Theatre] Trace of Time is a journey of musical discovery and cultural connections, from spirituals to the evolution of the tango. Program showcases music by Adolphus Hailstork, Astor Piazzolla and Latin Grammy-winning composer and bandoneon performer Hector Del Curto. Featuring Texas’ premiere tango duo Hugo Patyn and Celina Rotundo.
Houston-based APOLLO CHAMBER PLAYERS “performs with rhythmic flair and virtuosity” (The Strad) and “recasts music for a diverse and multi-ethnic generation” (Strings Magazine). The ensemble’s globally-inspired programming and multicultural new music commissions have garnered international acclaim, including sold-out performances at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and in Havana, Cuba as well as a Chamber Music America Residency Partnership award and regular features on American Public Media’s Performance Today.
Released on the Grammy-winning Azica Records label, Apollo’s With Malice Toward None album reached No. 1 on Amazon’s Hot New Release chart. The ensemble’s catalog of records has been featured on hundreds of radio and media stations worldwide Sirius XM, WQXR-NYC and the BBC. Apollo’s vanguard Library Voyage project, an initiative to perform at all Harris County/Houston Public Libraries, is the first of its kind in the nation.

[From All Music.com-Steve Huey] If Boyz II Men were portrayed as a clean-cut, wholesome R&B vocal group, then Jodeci's wild, sexual, bad-boy image represented the other side of the coin. Made up of two sets of brothers, the group's name was a consolidation of its members' names: Joel "JoJo" Hailey, Donald "DeVante Swing" and Dalvin DeGrate, and Cedric "K-Ci" Hailey. Natives of Charlotte, North Carolina, all four members toured the South as young boys singing gospel music, and even recorded albums. Both families belonged to the Pentecostal church, and the DeGrates' father was a minister. The boys were able to hear each other's gospel songs played on the radio, and were eventually introduced through girlfriends as teenagers. However, when they did meet, K-Ci was with a girl Dalvin had been dating, and a fight nearly broke out. The Hailey brothers and DeVante started hanging out together, partying, and talking about making R&B records together, coming up with the name Jodeci at this time.

SWV
[From All Music.com-Stephen Thomas Erlewine] With their 1992 debut, It's About Time, SWV scored a string of Top Ten R&B hits that established them as one of the most popular R&B groups of the '90s. SWV (their name is an acronym for Sisters with Voices) is comprised of three school friends: Coko (born Cheryl Gamble), Taj (born Tamara Johnson), and Lelee (born Leanne Lyons). All three vocalists sang in church as children, which is where they learned how to harmonize.
