Houston's music scene is about to be infused with soulful melodies and infectious grooves as Sarah and the Sundays take the stage at Warehouse Live Midtown on Friday, April 19, 2024. This dynamic group is known for their captivating performances that blend soul, funk, and R&B into a unique sonic experience that leaves audiences wanting more.
Led by the powerhouse vocals of Sarah, the band delivers a high-energy performance that is as soul-stirring as it is dance-worthy. Backed by the talented Sundays, comprising skilled musicians on guitar, bass, drums, and keys, Sarah's voice soars through each song, commanding attention and evoking a range of emotions.
[From poptized.com] Originally we were the Sundays because we practiced every Sunday but then we found out that there was already a British band from the ’80s called the Sundays—which made some people really upset because they felt we just stole their name—so at our first show my sister Sarah was there and we took a picture with her after the show, captioning the picture as “Sarah and the Sundays.” So, when it came time to look for a new name, we saw that caption and thought it kind of felt right.
The fusion of genres in Sarah and the Sundays' music creates a sound that is both timeless and contemporary. Influenced by classic soul artists like Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder, as well as modern R&B acts like Alicia Keys and John Legend, the band brings a fresh perspective to the stage while honoring the rich traditions of soul and funk music.
The upcoming show at Warehouse Live Midtown promises to be a night of soulful celebration. From smooth ballads that showcase Sarah's vocal prowess to funky grooves that get the crowd moving, the setlist is designed to keep the energy high and the audience engaged from start to finish.
But Sarah and the Sundays are more than just a band with catchy tunes. They're storytellers, weaving narratives of love, resilience, and empowerment into their music. Each song carries a message that resonates with listeners, creating moments of connection and reflection amidst the lively atmosphere of their live shows.

On the evening of Friday, April 19, 2024, the Wortham Theater Center's Cullen Theater in Houston will become a portal to the vibrant world of jazz, courtesy of the internationally acclaimed trumpeter and composer, Etienne Charles. Renowned for his mastery of the trumpet and his innovative approach to blending Caribbean rhythms with jazz, Charles promises an unforgettable musical experience that transcends boundaries and captivates audiences.
Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Etienne Charles brings a unique cultural perspective to his music. Influenced by the rich musical traditions of the Caribbean, including calypso, reggae, and steelpan music, Charles infuses his jazz compositions with infectious rhythms and melodic hooks that transport listeners to sun-drenched islands and lively street festivals.
At the heart of Etienne Charles' performance is his virtuosity on the trumpet. With each note, he weaves a tapestry of sound that is both technically impressive and emotionally resonant. His ability to improvise and create spontaneous musical dialogues with his bandmates is a testament to his musical intuition and skill as a performer.
[From etiennecharles.com] A firm believer in music and performance as a tool for provoking thought and dialogue, Charles’ themes speak to the status quo while drawing parallels to history. With his latest commissioned project, San Juan Hill, he goes a step further by exploring the storied New York neighborhood to bring the culture of San Juan Hill to the mainstage.
His concerts engage, enlighten, educate and enrich audiences with energized multidisciplinary performance utilizing original composition, thematic improvisation, dance, short films and spoken word to create a holistic experience.
Accompanying Charles on stage will be a talented ensemble of musicians, each bringing their own expertise and passion to the performance. Together, they will explore a diverse repertoire that showcases Charles' versatility as a composer and arranger, from soulful ballads to upbeat Latin-infused grooves.
What sets Etienne Charles apart is not just his musical talent but also his ability to connect with audiences on a deep level. His performances are not just concerts; they are journeys through soundscapes that evoke a range of emotions and invite listeners to immerse themselves in the beauty of jazz music.
