Sunday 5/14/2023 7:00 PM

Good Kid from Toronto, Ontario make their way to White Oak Music Hall this weekend.

The band is Nick Frosst lead vocalist, Jon Kereliuk as the drummer, Michael Kozakov as the bassist, and David Wood and Jacob Tsafatinos as guitarists. Their mascot, Nomu Kid, is prominently featured in their marketing and social media. Good Kid's first song, "Nomu," was released in 2015 and introduced their mascot, Nomu Kid. They released their first EP, titled Good Kid, in 2018, followed by Good Kid 2 in 2020.

Good Kid - Drifting

In late 2020, the band gained popularity through the use of their music on Fortnite streams. The band released their music DMCA-free so that it could be used in streams, and multiple of their songs have since been added into the game. Good Kid's style of music is inspired by 2000s indie rock and J-rock bands, such as The Strokes, Two Door Cinema Club, Bloc Party, and Kana-Boon. In 2019, they cited their current influences as PUP, Peach Pit, and Last Dinosaurs. The band has released several singles, including "No Time to Explain" in 2022, and "First Rate Town" in 2023. In the same year, they announced The Return of The Kid, their concert tour for the year, which was for all ages and happened from May 6 to June 2. The locations were mostly in the United States of America, aside for one show occurring in Toronto. This weekend Houston, Texas. . . . more @Last.fm.com (Click Here)

[From All Music.com-Neil Z. Yeung] As they matured from their indie dance-rock roots into torchbearers of new wave- and Americana-inspired anthems, Las Vegas rock quartet the Killers earned global success. With a mix of '80s-styled synth pop and fashionista charm, the band's multi-platinum 2004 debut, Hot Fuss, became one of the decade's biggest releases, spawning four hit singles -- including their most enduring hit, "Mr. Brightside" -- and catapulting the group into the international spotlight. After the abrupt stylistic shift on 2006 sophomore effort Sam's Town -- which de-emphasized the band's new wave revivalism in favor of the heartland rock of Bruce Springsteen and Rattle and Hum-era U2 -- they struck a balance between their two sides on a consistent run of Top Ten releases that peaked with 2017's chart-topping Wonderful Wonderful. In 2020, their sixth album, Imploding the Mirage, garnered critical praise and scored them a U.S. alternative chart-topper with the single "Caution." Less than a year later, they released the pensive tonal shift Pressure Machine. Read more @All Music.com (Click Here)

The Killers - Mr. Brightside

[From All Music.com-Neil Z. Yeung] As the Lemon Twigs, sons of power pop songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ronnie D'Addario, Brian and Michael D'Addario channel the '70s singer/songwriter energy of their father's era and add a healthy love of musical theater and an over-the-top performance. The brothers began writing songs at young ages and delivered their 2016 debut album, Do Hollywood, on 4AD at the tail-end of their teenage years. Success came quickly, with critical acclaim and a string of TV appearances as well as extensive touring. They evolved from the conceptual eccentricity of their 2018 sophomore album, Go to School, to a more varied but no less bombastic set of songs on their 2020 album Songs for the General Public, to the more emotionally naked sentiments of their folksier but still wildly eclectic 2023 album Everything Harmony.

Band-Maid
@Bayou Music Center

Sunday 5/14/2023 8:00 PM

[From All Music.com-James Christopher Monger] Band-Maid are an all-female Japanese rock band with an image modeled on maid cafés, which are cosplay restaurants found primarily in Japan where waitstaff dress in French maid or anime costumes and treat customers as masters and mistresses; the group refer to their fans as "masters" and "princesses," with their performances being billed as "servings." The band's hard-hitting sound runs the range from hard rock and metal to punk and pop.

BAND-MAID / NO GOD

Formed by vocalist/guitarist and ex-maid café employee Miku Kobato, the group eventually coalesced around a lineup consisting of Kobato, guitarist Kanami Tōno, drummer Akane Hirose, bassist Misa, and co-vocalist Saiki Atsumi. With their appearance intended to contrast their aggressive rock sound, Band-Maid debuted live as a quintet at the Shibuya-AX concert hall in August 2013. The following year saw them ink a deal with Gump Records and issue their debut mini-album, Maid in Japan. Their second mini-LP, 2015's New Beginning, was their first to chart, reaching number 64 on the Japanese Oricon weekly. A fiery blend of rock, pop, and metal, the record caught the attention of Nippon Crown, which signed the group to their sublabel Crown Stones in 2016. That year saw Band-Maid make their first trip overseas, appearing at Sakura-Con in Seattle before heading out on a world tour that included stops in Mexico, Europe, and China. Brand New Maid, the group's Crown Stones debut, also arrived that year and peaked at number 19 on the weekly albums chart. Read more @All Music.com (Click Here)

Sarah Shook and
The Disarmers
@The Heights Theatre

Sunday 5/14/2023 8:00 PM

[From all Music.com-Mark Deming] As the leader of North Carolina's Sarah Shook & the Disarmers, singer/songwriter Sarah Shook offers up a full-bodied combination of the sound of vintage outlaw country -- with lyrics that waver between defiance and honest introspection -- and the fire of punk rock. Shook is unafraid of opening up about their passions and failings in song, and the tough but emotionally honest tone of the Disarmers' mix of outlaw country and lean roots rock is an ideal match for the songs. Shook and their bandmates sounded scrappy and fearlessly honest on the indie efforts Sidelong (2015) and Years (2018), and both songwriter and accompanists sounded more mature and equally forceful on 2022's Nightroamer, written and recorded after a period of personal re-evaluation.

Sarah Shook & the Disarmers - I Got This

Sarah Shook was born in Rochester, New York in 1985. They were raised in a deeply religious household, home schooled, and only allowed to listen to classical or Christian praise music as they grew up. Despite these restrictions, Shook learned to play guitar in high school and began writing songs. The family moved frequently during their childhood, and when Shook was 19, settled in Garner, North Carolina, a town Shook openly disliked. A brief marriage left Shook with a son, and they relocated to Pittsboro, North Carolina, a half-hour drive from Chapel Hill, where Shook felt much more at home. In 2010, they put together their first band, Sarah Shook & the Devil, who issued an EP in 2013, Seven. (The EP was given a belated vinyl-only American release in 2020.) By the end of 2013, that band had split, and Shook & the Devil guitarist Eric Peterson started over with the group Sarah Shook & the Dirty Hand, a stopgap project that played live around the Chapel Hill area. Meanwhile, Shook had found a fan in producer and engineer Ian Schreier, who was eager to make a record with them. In 2015, Shook and Peterson assembled a new band to record with Schreier, which also included Aaron Oliva on bass, Phil Sullivan on pedal steel, and John Howie, Jr. (who was also Shook's partner) on drums.
