[From All Music.co-Stephen Thomas Erlewine] Tears for Fears were always more ambitious than the average synth pop group. From the beginning, the duo of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith were tackling big subjects -- their very name derived from Arthur Janov's primal scream therapy, and his theories were evident throughout their debut, The Hurting. Driven by catchy, infectious synth pop, The Hurting became a big hit in their native England, setting the stage for international stardom with their second album, 1985's Songs from the Big Chair. On the strength of the singles "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Shout," the record became a major hit, establishing the duo as one of the leading acts of the second generation of MTV stars. Instead of quickly recording a follow-up, Tears for Fears labored over their third album, the psychedelic and jazz-rock-tinged The Seeds of Love. Smith left the group in the early '90s while Orzabal continued with Tears for Fears as a solo project for several years, issuing a pair of albums. They reunited briefly for 2004's Everybody Loves a Happy Ending and permanently to tour and record 2022's The Tipping Point.

Orzabal and Smith met as children in Bath, England. Both boys came from broken homes, and Smith was leaning toward juvenile delinquency. Orzabal, however, turned toward books, eventually discovering Arthur Janov's primal scream therapy, a way of confronting childhood fears that John Lennon embraced after the Beatles disbanded. Orzabal turned Smith on to Janov, but before the duo explored this theory further, they formed the ska revival band Graduate in the late '70s. Read more @All Music.com (Click Here)

Samantha Fish
The Heights

Sunday 7/16/2023 8:00 PM

[All Music.com-Marcy Donelson] Versatile roots rock guitarist Samantha Fish impressed industry professionals as a teenager before scoring her first number one album on the blues chart when she was still in her mid-twenties. Fish's music is based in the blues, especially on early LPs like 2013's Black Wind Howlin' and the Luther Dickinson-produced Wild at Heart (2015). As her star rose, Fish's music became more eclectic, showing off her love of R&B, rock & roll, rockabilly, and funk, as well as her passionate vocal stylings. 2021's Faster saw her backed by members of the Vandals and the Last Bandoleros, and 2023's Death Wish Blues was a collaboration with rockabilly rebel Jesse Dayton.

Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Fish grew up in a musical family who enjoyed a variety of genres, including a steady diet of classic rock radio. Her father played guitar and would sometimes jam with friends at their home. Young Samantha started out as a drummer but switched to guitar at the age of 15. As a teen, she would sneak into local blues landmark the Knuckleheads Saloon to hear touring musicians, and she began sitting in with them from time to time after she became legal at 18.

In 2009, Fish recorded the live album Live Bait as the Samantha Fish Blues Band, and the rock-edged guitar work brought her to the attention of Ruf Records. The label went on to feature her alongside Cassie Taylor and Dani Wilde on the 2011 release Girls with Guitars, which included covers of Rolling Stones and Steve Miller Band hits, as well as original material from the three guitarist/singer/songwriters. Later that same year, Fish released her solo debut, Runaway, also with Ruf Records. It was produced by mentor and early collaborator Mike Zito. Read more @All Music.com (Click Here)

[From All Music.com-Joel Corry] British DJ and producer Joel Corry's bright, bass-heavy house tracks are chiefly inspired by '90s and 2000s U.K. garage and R&B, mixing upbeat rhythms with yearning sentiments. He hit big in 2019 with a cover of Monsta Boy's "Sorry," then scored his first U.K. number one the following year with "Head & Heart" featuring MNEK. Corry also cracked the U.K. Top 20 with his 2021 David Guetta and RAYE collaboration "Bed." He later released the EP Four for the Floor, as well as singles with Bryson Tiller, Tom Grennan, and others.

Meat N' Bone

Born in 1989, Corry grew up London during the height of the U.K. garage explosion, and started to DJ when he was 13. Professionally active as the owner of a personal training business as well as a gym and leisure wear company, he first caught the public's eye when he starred in the reality show Geordie Shore. Corry released his first two dance singles, "Back Again" and "Light It Up," in 2015. He began hosting a specialty show on KISS FM in 2017, and holds down summer residencies in Ibiza, Zante, Ayia Napa, and several other clubbing hot spots. In 2019, he released a cover of Monsta Boy's 2000 U.K. garage hit "Sorry (I Didn't Know)," retitled "Sorry" and featuring vocalist Hayley May. After being featured on the British reality TV series Love Island, the song reached the Top Ten in the United Kingdom, Scotland, and Ireland. Two more singles, "Lonely" and "Head & Heart," arrived in 2020 and reached the Top Five of the U.K. singles chart. The latter song, a collaboration with MNEK, eventually hit number one on the U.K. singles chart and cracked the Billboard Hot 100.

In February 2021, Corry scored another Top 20 U.K. hit with "Bed," which also featured David Guetta and RAYE. Both songs later appeared on his EP Four for the Floor. Another Guetta collaboration, "What Would You Do," appeared in 2022, also featuring Bryson Tiller. "History" with Becky Hill and "Lionheart (Fearless)" featuring Tom Grennan followed.
