Frankie Tillo – Artist Interview
by Austin Wetzel kzuu.org
Frankie Tillo is a man’s music-man. A beautiful and down to earth soul that has an incredible presence and sense of humor; Frankie carries himself with the joie de vi·vre of a young Paul Newman and the musical sensibilities of Paul Simon.
Coming home for Christmas in Idaho Falls, we met with each other at a quaint coffee shop downtown (The Villa) surrounded by clanging cups, espresso machine hissing, and familial chatter.
During the interview we discussed his past recordings, future plans, and memories of a shared past in our Mormon dominated village. Gratitude does not begin to cover the feeling I have for this man’s art and his time. A truly inspiring human, I wish him the best in all things.
Frankie handled this interview like a conjured professional. Questions were answered with careful consideration and a smile. Frankie shared how growing up in our small town influenced his writing and perspective.

During the interview I was able to ask Frankie about his friend, and drummer, Tanner Tuck’s role within his band and his life. Frankie is a community-minded individual. The loss of one of his closest community members was honored with the song, “Let It Roll” from his album: These Songs Will Melt and compilation: In Memory of Tanner Tuck. Presence. Tanner gave the song and Frankie an incredible presence which can be felt in the recording. Tanner’s drumming eases and glides the listener from beginning to end. I’m fortunate to have experienced this art and his presence in the song.

[From All Music.com-Liam Martin] Best known as a member of English boy band One Direction, pop vocalist Louis Tomlinson embarked on a solo career after the group ended their record-breaking early-2010s run in 2016. After years of releasing singles and appearing on The X Factor -- the same show that pushed him into the limelight -- he issued his official debut album, Walls, in 2020. The Brit-pop-leaning Faith in the Future followed in 2022, topping the charts in his home country.
Born Louis Troy Austin in Doncaster, England, he shot to stardom after appearing on the 2010 edition of The X Factor. He attended school in his hometown, where, by his own admission, he didn't pay that much attention academically; instead, he was drawn to anything related to music and acting. After playing the role of Danny Zuko in his school production of Grease, he was motivated to audition for The X Factor in 2009, but he failed to make the cut. Undeterred, Tomlinson auditioned the following year, this time making it through the preliminary stages. Initially, he performed as a solo act, but just as he and four others -- Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik -- were set to be ejected from the solo competition, guest judge Nicole Scherzinger suggested putting them together and allowing them to continue as One Direction in the group competition. Although One Direction came in third on the show, they went on to become one of The X Factor's biggest success stories, regularly topping charts worldwide and selling over 50 million records within a decade. Outside of the band, Tomlinson gained a reputation for philanthropy, as he constantly campaigned for, and donated to, various charities.

Back to You
In early 2016, One Direction began an indefinite hiatus, giving the individual members time to pursue their own interests. For Tomlinson, this included becoming a father. Later that year, he released his debut solo single, the platinum-certified "Just Hold On," a collaboration with Steve Aoki. Months later, he hit a U.S. chart peak with "Back to You," a group effort with Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals. He continued into 2019 with a series of singles that eventually landed on his official full-length debut. . Read more @AllMusic.com (Click Here)

[From All Music.com-David Crone] Singer/rapper Don Toliver established himself with a unique blend of vocal-driven trap. The Houstonian was catapulted to international recognition in 2018 with a featured role on "Can't Say," a Top 40 U.S. pop hit off Travis Scott's Astroworld LP. Signed to Scott's Cactus Jack label, Toliver joined Scott and Sheck Wes on the 2019 collaborative project JackBoys, a number one hit, and crashed the Top Ten as a solo artist with 2020's Heaven or Hell. Toliver has had continued Top Ten success with his second and third albums, Life of a DON (2021) and the opulent, star-studded Love Sick (2023).
Born Caleb Zackery Toliver, Don Toliver kicked off his musical career in May 2017, releasing the collaborative mixtape Playa Familia with friend and fellow rapper Yungjosh93. The tape, taking notes from sung-rap contemporaries like Trippie Redd and Future, blended Toliver's 03 Greedo-like vocals with Yungjosh's Jeremih-inspired crooning, adding an eccentric note to the formula of the pair's influences. Toliver's solo debut came just a few months later, with debut singles "I Gotta" and "Diva" dropping in November and December, respectively. Expressing the young musician's equal abilities in contemporary trap and R&B, the singles quickly caught the attention of Atlantic Records, which signed Toliver to the label in March 2018. Under Atlantic, he released a further three singles -- "Make Sumn," "Checks," and "Holdin' Steel" -- in anticipation of his upcoming sophomore mixtape and major-label debut, Donny Womack.

While working on the tape, Toliver caught the attention of fellow Houston native Travis Scott, who invited the young rapper to Hawaii to work on his upcoming LP, Astroworld. Eagerly accepting, Toliver landed a feature on Scott's track "Can't Say" during the sessions, which also inspired him to record much of the material for Donny Womack. [From All Music.com-John Bush] One of the most prominent bands to emerge from the Southern California punk scene, blink-182 gained mainstream success in the early 2000s. Arriving in the wake of the pop-punk explosion set off by Green Day, the trio (whose best-known line-up featured bassist/singer Mark Hoppus, guitarist/singer Tom DeLonge, and drummer Travis Barker) gained a large fan base with their hooky, high-energy songs. At a time when competition with teen pop and nu-metal was not unheard of, they broke through with their third album, 1999's Enema of the State, releasing a steady stream of hits bolstered by humorous, tongue-in-cheek music videos that were popular in the waning days of MTV's musical programming. The band's popularity helped propel their follow-up, 2001's Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, to number one on the Billboard 200. Though the pop-punk trend faded, blink-182 have remained chart favorites, scoring six Top Ten Billboard 200 albums, including 2003's blink-182, 2011's Neighborhoods, and 2016's California. Though DeLonge left the band in 2015, he ultimately returned and the reunited trio released the single
Blink-182 formed in the suburbs of San Diego around guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus, and drummer Scott Raynor. Originally known as simply Blink, the band debuted in 1993 with the self-released EP Fly Swatter. After releasing the album Buddha in 1994, the trio signed to Grilled Cheese/Cargo and released Cheshire Cat the following year. The threat of a lawsuit from a similarly named Irish band forced them to change their name to blink-182, but that did not slow them down: the group earned a higher profile by touring the world with Pennywise and NOFX on the 1996-1997 Warped Tour, in addition to appearing on innumerable skate/surf/snowboarding videos.

What's My Age Again?
The third blink-182 LP, Dude Ranch, was jointly released in 1997 by Cargo and MCA. Dude Ranch expanded the group's audience and went platinum by the end of 1998, due in part to the popularity of the infectious teen anthem "Dammit (Growing Up)." The group also officially signed with MCA, which released the band's fourth album, Enema of the State, in the summer of 1999. The album, produced by Jerry Finn (Green Day, Rancid), also welcomed a new member into the trio's ranks; Travis Barker, formerly with the Aquabats, settled in on drums after Raynor left midway through a 1998 U.S. tour. Enema was greeted with almost immediate success, and helped the band achieve the mainstream status of toilet-humored pop-punk kings that Dude Ranch had only hinted at. Driven by the commercially successful singles "What's My Age Again?," "All the Small Things," and "Adam's Song," music videos for the three songs (whose clips included themes of streaking and boy band spoofs) were MTV smashes as well.
