This weekend at Toyota Center its comedian Dave Chappelle. He is best known for his satirical comedy sketch series Chappelle's Show which he starred in until quitting in the middle of production during the third season. After a hiatus, Chappelle returned to performing stand-up comedy.
Chappelle has been called the "comic genius of America" by Esquire and, in 2013, "the best" by a Billboard writer. In 2017, Rolling Stone ranked him No. 9 in their "50 Best Stand Up Comics of All Time."
Last week the comedian celebrated the naming of a performing arts venue at his high school.
[From TMZ.com] "Dave Chappelle's alma mater is paying tribute to him by renaming a building in his honor ... just months after he got heckled on campus during the transgender controversy.
Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington D.C. is set to rename its performance theater after its most noted alumni ... the school says it's honoring Dave because of his "ongoing commitment and service to the school."
Dave Chappelle Jokes That Almost
Got Him Cancelled
As we reported, Dave paid a visit to his old high school back in November, while he was taking heat for his jokes about the transgender community.
Things got heated when he invited students who disagreed to speak during an assembly. One student stepped up and called him a bigot, adding, "I'm 16 and I think you're childish." Some students wanted the school to reverse its decision over naming the building after him.
Dave challenged both his supporters and his opponents -- asking both sides to raise money for the school, and if the opponents raised more money, he'd gladly forego the honor of having the building renamed. [Read more @TMz.com (Click Here)

The Grand Ol' Americana Show -
Sizzle Reel
[From goshowproductions.com] Way back when, in 2003, producer Will Hearn and Blue Water Highway’s Greg Essington and Zack Kibodeaux were still in high school and wanted to write and perform a Christmas show, but something very different from anything else out there. Realizing the current market for Christmas entertainment was stale and overly commercialized, the three friends developed a show combining progressive and culturally relevant ideas with nostalgic Christmas tunes performed through the framework of a vintage time period that appeals to a multi-generational audience, a concept they called progressive nostalgia.
Starting as a one-night-only fundraiser for the Brazoria County Youth Home, The Grand Ol’ Christmas Show turned out to be a surprise hit and a standing-room-only sell-out. It was produced again in 2004, 2005, 2009, and 2015, continuing to sell out every single show.
Executive producer Will Hearn, formally took over the reins in 2016, forming The Grand Ol’ Production Company. We began touring the state of Texas seasonally, to growing audiences & popularity. Additionally, our cast & crew have produced custom shows for municipalities and organizations to celebrate historical milestones, anniversaries, and festivals. Whether seen on HBO’s Treme or at their legendary Tuesday night gig at The Maple Leaf in New Orleans, La. Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band is a true New Orleans institution making their way to The Heights Theatre this weekend.
Rebirth formed in 1983 by the Frazier brothers, the band has since evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world.
While committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands, they have also extended themselves into the realms of funk and hip-hop to create their signature sound. “Rebirth can be precise whenever it wants to,” says The New York Times, “but it’s more like a party than a machine. It’s a working model of the New Orleans musical ethos: as long as everybody knows what they’re doing, anyone can cut loose.” In the wake of the sometimes-stringent competition among New Orleans brass bands, Rebirth is the undisputed leader of the pack, and they show no signs of slowing down.
Following the Grammy-winning Rebirth of New Orleans, Rebirth Brass Band is at it again with Move Your Body, an infectious, groove-laden collection of hip-shakers sure to saturate the dance floor.
Rollicking originals like "Who's Rockin, Who's Rollin'"? and "Take 'Em to the Moon" reaffirm the band's position as head of the brass throne while the rasta-esque "On My Way" and leave-nothing-to-the-imagination lyrics of "HBNS" showcase the unit's talent for penning unabashed party starters.
Rebirth Brass Band
Do Whatcha Wanna
Live in New Orleans
Boasting a mastery of Rebirth's signature "heavy funk" sound, Move Your Body pushes and swings, leaving behind an 11 track thumbprint, approved by the Frazier brothers themselves, of a sultry Tuesday night spent dancing on their home court at the Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans.
When you think of New Orleans, the city’s foremost flambeaux-lit traditions of Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street, voodoo, Po’ boys, beads, gumbo, and second line undoubtedly come to mind. You can also count Big Sam’s Funky Nation amongst those NOLA treasures.
Known for a boisterous blend of funk, jazz, rock, and hip-hop, nothing short of seismic live “experiences,” and a whole lot of Southern charm, Big Sam’s Funky Nation might very well be The Big Easy’s best kept secret.

[From All Music.com-Steve Huey] One of the biggest-selling female groups of all time, TLC rode a blend of post-new jack swing R&B and pop to superstardom during the '90s. Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, rapper Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas appealed equally to pop and R&B audiences, blending catchy hooks and bouncy funk with a playful and confident attitude. Their sound was reflected in their image, equal parts style and spirit, bolstered by a flamboyant, outrageous wardrobe. After their star-making second album, CrazySexyCool, the group fell into disarray and took over four years to record their follow-up, Fanmail, though the hits kept coming. By the end of the '90s, they had three multi-platinum albums and nine Top 10 Hot 100 hits to their credit. Tragedy struck in 2002 when Lopes was killed in a car accident, but Watkins and Thomas sporadically performed and recorded as TLC into the late 2010s.
TLC - Waterfalls
TLC formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1991, when Watkins and Lopes split off from another group. In short order, they met Thomas, locally based producer Dallas Austin, and singer, songwriter, and producer Pebbles, who became their manager. They quickly scored a record deal with L.A. Reid and Babyface's new label, LaFace, and in February 1992 issued their new jack-styled debut album, Ooooooohhh...On the TLC Tip. The video for the provocative and aggressive lead single, "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," established their quirky, colorful fashion sense, and true to her nickname, Lopes stirred up some attention by wearing a condom over her left eye to promote safe sex. The song became a Top Ten Hot 100 hit, as did its follow-ups, the ballad "Baby-Baby-Baby" (a number two hit) and "What About Your Friends." Read more @All Music.com (Click Here)
Shaggy
[From All Music.com-Steve Huey] Shaggy emerged in the early '90s as the biggest crossover success in dancehall reggae. Not only did he become the genre's most commercially potent artist in the international market, but he managed to sustain a lasting career over the coming decade thanks to wildly popular albums like 1995's breakout Boombastic (featuring the chart-topping single of the same name) and 2000's multi-platinum Hot Shot. Perhaps in part because he wasn't based in Jamaica, he never really needed to have it both ways; virtually ignoring the hardcore dancehall crowd, Shaggy's music was initially geared toward good times, a friendly (if horny) persona, and catchy party anthems. While he wasn't shy about lifting hooks wholesale from pop hits of the past, he also had fairly eclectic tastes, giving his records a musical variety lacking in other dancehall stars.
