Formosa Circus Art was established in 2011 with the purpose of developing the contemporary circus arts of Taiwan and mixing them with other diverse styles of performance. The result is a new physical vocabulary, unique to its island of creation and combining traditional forms of movement with street culture and theater arts. FOCA’s team members come from a wide range of practices in the performing arts, including acrobatics, dance, and drama.

Since their establishment, FOCA has performed across Taiwan and abroad, including festivals and cultural events in France, Germany, Denmark, Australia, Japan, Korea, and many others. As a leader in their home country, FOCA was the first Taiwanese circus company to perform overseas and to enter the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Festival OFF D’Avignon.

Performing Arts and Culture programs are presented by Wells Fargo. Major support for Performing Arts programs comes from Nancy C. Allen, Ellen Gritz and Milton Rosenau, the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance, and the Anchorage Foundation.
